Heatwave Cleaning Mistake Turns Homes into Saunas and Banana Peel Boost Revives July Tomatoes in Spain

During extreme heat, many people in Spain try to cool their homes by mopping floors with large amounts of water. When done at the hottest part of the day, the excess moisture saturates indoor air, raising humidity and creating a “sauna” effect that makes indoor temperatures feel even hotter. The recommended approach is to mop only when the floor is merely damp and to do so in the evening, allowing the water to evaporate slowly and provide a gentle cooling effect.

In July, Spanish gardeners report that tomato plants often stop flowering despite adequate watering. The lack of potassium in the soil hampers fruit development. A simple, natural remedy is to macerate banana peels in rainwater, dilute the resulting infusion, and apply it to the base of the plants every ten to fifteen days. This potassium‑rich solution can quickly revive tomato flowering and improve yields without synthetic fertilizers.
