Balkan heatwave breaks temperature records in Croatia and Bosnia

A severe heatwave is affecting the Balkan region, with several cities in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina recording or approaching record-breaking temperatures. In Croatia, Split recorded a new August temperature record of 39.2°C, while Dubrovnik and Senj also saw historic highs. Red weather warnings have been issued for the Rijeka, Split, and Dubrovnik regions due to extreme heat risks.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, temperatures in the south are approaching 40°C. While the immediate forecast predicts continued heat and sunny conditions through the weekend, a significant weather shift is expected early next week. A frontal disturbance is projected to bring rain, thunderstorms, and a noticeable drop in temperatures, particularly in northern areas.

In Serbia, meteorologists note that while the summer has been above average in temperature, mountain regions like Kopaonik offer cooler relief, though UV radiation remains a high risk. The regional trend suggests a period of intense heat followed by increased instability and precipitation toward the end of August.
