Heavy Rain and Flood Risk Expected in Central Indiana This Weekend
A slow‑moving weather system will bring widespread rain to central Indiana from Friday night through Saturday, with the heaviest downpours expected Saturday. The National Weather Service in Indianapolis predicts up to 2 inches of rainfall in some locations, raising the risk of localized flooding in low‑lying and urban areas. Cities such as Indianapolis, Lafayette, Kokomo, Muncie, Terre Haute, Bloomington, Columbus, Richmond and Crawfordsville are advised to prepare for moderate to heavy rain, possible ponding on roadways, and reduced visibility.
Thunderstorms are also forecast, though widespread severe weather is not anticipated. Residents are urged to clear storm drains, monitor updates, and avoid driving through flooded roads. Rain is expected to diminish late Saturday night into Sunday as the low‑pressure system moves away, but repeated heavy showers could keep flooding concerns alive into early next week.
