Morocco weather alert: thunderstorms and heat up to 42°C
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange alert for several regions in Morocco, forecasting a combination of severe thunderstorms, hail, and extreme heat.
Between Sunday and Tuesday, multiple provinces including Taroudant, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Zagora, Figuig, Errachidia, Boulemane, Azilal, and Al Haouz are expected to experience thunderstorms with rainfall between 20 and 30 mm, accompanied by hail and gusty winds. In the northern regions of Tangier-Assilah and Fahs-Anjra, wind gusts could reach speeds of 75 to 85 km/h.
Simultaneously, a significant heatwave is projected. Provinces such as Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, and Khémisset may see temperatures between 38°C and 40°C on Sunday. This heat is expected to intensify in southern provinces, including Es-Semara, Aousserd, Laâyoune, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Boujdour, where temperatures could soar to 42°C on Monday and Tuesday.
