Heavy Rain Hits Argentina's Alto Valle and Río Gallegos

Intense precipitation returned to Argentina's Alto Valle on Wednesday, with the town of Roca receiving 10‑20 mm of rain and wind gusts up to 31 km/h, while Neuquén recorded gusts exceeding 50 km/h. The National Weather Service warned of variable‑intensity rain through the night and the possibility of isolated snow in higher elevations. A polar air mass moving from Patagonia is expected to bring severe gusts, further instability and additional rain across several provinces.

In Río Gallegos, about 20 mm of rain fell between Sunday and Tuesday, and officials expect more rain through Wednesday afternoon. Eduardo Gauna of the municipal early‑warning system described the volume as historic for the region, noting that recent meltwater combined with the rainfall could increase flood risk. Continuous monitoring is being carried out with the National Meteorological Service and the local observatory.
