Heavy Rain Sweeps Quảng Ngãi, Vietnam and Prompts Widespread Alerts in China

On the night of 2 August 2026, Quảng Ngãi city in Vietnam experienced a brief but intense downpour, recording 68 mm of rain per hour at the Nghĩa Lộ station. The rain caused localized flooding at several intersections, but water receded within about 30 minutes. Forecasts called for hourly totals up to 50 mm, with some locations exceeding 80 mm, accompanied by thunderstorms, strong gusts and hail. Officials linked the heightened rainfall risk to a strong El Niño episode expected to bring above‑average precipitation and temperatures throughout August.
