Heavy rainfall and flooding reported in Santo André and Americana
Heavy rainfall is impacting several regions in Brazil, with significant accumulation reported in Santo André and Americana. In the Grande ABC region, authorities have warned that up to 150 mm of rain may fall due to El Niño effects. Santo André has already recorded 70 mm of rain, with forecasts predicting unstable weather, strong winds of up to 70 km/h, and temperatures between 14°C and 19°C.
In Americana, 54 mm of rain fell within just seven hours, following a period where 115 mm had already been recorded over the previous two days. This high volume has caused flooding in multiple areas, including near the bus station, Avenida da Saúde, and along the Ribeirão Quilombo. Local Civil Defense and Municipal Guard teams are monitoring critical points and managing traffic interdictions to ensure public safety.
