Heavy rainfall causes flooding and infrastructure damage in Guinea

Heavy rainfall across Guinea has caused significant damage to infrastructure and residential areas in the Kissidougou and Dinguiraye regions.

In Kissidougou, torrential rains between Monday and Tuesday injured two people and damaged more than 20 homes, particularly in the Farakoh and Missira neighborhoods. In the Songbô area, floodwaters washed away a bridge, disrupting local transportation. Local authorities, including Prefect Mamadou Lamine Goubi Sow and Mayor Marie Louise Kona Sidibé, have visited the affected sites to coordinate emergency responses and assess the need for technical studies to protect low-lying residential zones.

In Dinguiraye, heavy rains on September 22-23 submerged a critical bridge, isolating the sub-prefectures of Lansanaya and Gagnakaly from the urban center. The bridge, which residents claim has been in use since Guinea's early years of independence, is essential for the transport of goods and people. Local citizens have called on authorities to implement a permanent solution to secure the route against seasonal flooding.
