Heavy rainfall ends drought in Bahia's Sisal region
Heavy rainfall has ended a prolonged drought in the Sisal region of Bahia, Brazil, providing significant relief to farmers and livestock breeders in the municipalities of Ichu and Barrocas.
In Ichu, precipitation reached 73 mm in the city center on Sunday, October 18, with some rural areas like Morro Redondo recording up to 90 mm. The rain is expected to aid in the recovery of pastures and the replenishment of reservoirs used for agriculture and animal consumption. However, the intensity caused some local issues, including a fallen utility pole on the BA-233 highway.
Similarly, Barrocas experienced intense rainfall across its urban center and various rural communities, including Minação, Ladeira, Alto Alegre, Alambique, and Rosário. Local residents reported that the rain arrived at a critical time for livestock, as many had been forced to use alternative vegetation like mandacaru to feed cattle during the dry spell. Other nearby cities in the region, such as Serrinha and Araci, also reported flooding due to the downpour.
