Campo Grande, Brazil issues yellow alert as intense rains break June records

The Municipal Coordination of Protection and Civil Defense in Campo Grande issued a yellow alert for heavy rain and strong winds, warning of rainfall rates of 20‑30 mm per hour and possible daily totals of up to 50 mm. The alert cites a low risk of falling branches, localized flooding, power interruptions and tree falls, and advises residents to avoid flood‑prone areas and large trees.

In the first half of June, the city recorded rainfall amounts that surpassed the historical monthly average. Monitoring stations reported accumulations of up to 119.6 mm, equivalent to 152 % of the expected June total, making Campo Grande one of the most rain‑impacted locations in the state during this period.
