Heavy rains cause flooding and isolation in Brazil
Severe weather across different regions of Brazil has resulted in significant flooding and infrastructure damage. In Goiânia, heavy storms accompanied by strong winds and lightning caused street flooding and fallen trees. The Civil Defense issued a severe alert for high flooding risks, with rainfall reaching up to 61.2 mm in certain areas.
In Querência do Norte, the rising level of the Ivaí River, which rose by as much as 13 meters, has isolated several communities. Approximately 30 people were forced to leave their homes, while around 25 families in rural settlements like Che Guevara and Pontal do Tigre remain isolated, with access only possible via boat or tractor. The flooding has also damaged rural roads, affected the PR-218 highway, and impacted local tourism and river access.
