Heavy rains cripple transport in Mexico City and Veracruz

Intense rainfall on 10 June 2026 combined with large civil demonstrations in Mexico City caused widespread disruption to the capital’s transport network. Metro service was limited to a short segment of Line 1 and a reduced section of Line 5, while nine stations were closed. Major avenues such as Paseo de la Reforma and several arterial roads were blocked, prompting the city’s security authorities to reroute traffic.

In the state of Veracruz, the federal road network faced landslides, debris falls and river overflows from the same storm system. The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) deployed personnel and machinery to clear affected sections of Federal Routes 150, 127 and others, and to monitor slope stability. Despite the hazards, officials reported that no road closures had occurred and traffic remained operational.

Both regions continue to monitor weather conditions, with authorities emphasizing safety measures for commuters and road users.
