Heavy rains flood villages in Central Sulawesi and Central Java, Indonesia

Intense rainfall caused river overflow and seawater intrusion that flooded several villages in Indonesia on June 5‑7, 2026. In Central Sulawesi's Buol Regency, four villages – Mulat, Mopu, Bungkudu and Potangoan – were submerged, displacing 193 people, flooding dozens of homes and a mosque, and damaging roads and bridges. No casualties were reported, and emergency teams are providing relief and assessing reconstruction needs.

In Central Java's Rembang Regency, a tidal surge inundated three coastal villages – Pantiharjo, Sumurtawang and Pandangan Kulon – affecting approximately 40 million rupiah in property damage and temporarily halting local activities. Five homes in Pantiharjo and eight in Sumurtawang suffered water damage, but there were also no deaths or evacuations.

Both regions are under ongoing monitoring by provincial disaster agencies as water levels recede.
