São Paulo storms cause fatalities and widespread damage
Severe storms across the state of São Paulo have resulted in multiple fatalities and significant infrastructure damage. In Jundiaí, two 16-year-old women were swept away by a current while attempting to cross a stream in the Casa Branca neighborhood. Additionally, a woman in the rural area of Pinhalzinho was found dead after her vehicle was carried away by floodwaters.
The heavy rainfall has impacted at least 24 municipalities, with the highest precipitation recorded in Jaú (120mm), Itapetininga (110mm), and Rio Claro (96mm). The storms caused widespread flooding, landslides, and fallen trees. In the capital, São Paulo, the Emergency Management Center (CGE) reported 16 flooding points, some of which rendered major roads like Marginal Tietê impassable.
Other affected areas include Capivari, Guareí, and Rafard, where numerous families have been displaced or forced into municipal shelters. The Civil Defense has maintained an orange alert for the entire state, warning of continued risks of lightning, strong winds, and hail. The state government has mobilized humanitarian aid, including food baskets and cleaning kits, to assist displaced residents.
