Heavy rains trigger flooding in Soacha and Quetzaltenango

Heavy rainfall has triggered flooding and emergency responses in several regions across Latin America. In Soacha, Colombia, local authorities have activated a Unified Command Post (PMU) to manage flooding in the Quintanares, La Esperanza, and Autopista Sur sectors. The administration has deployed heavy machinery to clean sand traps in La Novena, La Capilla, and El Barreno to mitigate risks from water accumulation and landslides.

In Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, intense rains caused significant street flooding, particularly in Zone 7 near the Los Trigales neighborhood. Local transit authorities reported that water levels reached halfway up vehicles, leading to temporary road closures and traffic regulations. The National Institute of Seismology, Vulcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) has warned that moderate to heavy precipitation is expected to continue through the weekend.
