Heavy traffic expected on A6 near Lyon this weekend

The French traffic monitoring agency Bison Futé has marked Saturday 8 August as a red‑alert day, warning of severe congestion across the national road network. The most critical period is expected on Sunday 9 August, when the A6 motorway between Lyon and Beaune should be avoided between 10:00 and 18:00 as return traffic from the Auvergne‑Rhône‑Alpes region peaks.

Travelers are advised to consider alternative routes or to pause their journey. The nearby town of Saint‑Galmier, located about an hour from Lyon, has been highlighted as one of France’s “most beautiful detours” by the Michelin guide and offers a scenic stop with historic sites and the famous Badoit sparkling water source.

Bison Futé expects traffic to normalize by Monday 10 August, with congestion shifting to other regions such as the North and the Grand‑West.
