Heavy traffic hits Bulgaria's Kapitan Andreevo and Moldova's Sculeni border points

On 2 July 2026 Bulgaria’s border authorities recorded intensive traffic of heavy‑truck traffic at the Kapitan Andreevo crossing with Turkey. The surge resulted from a temporary ban on trucks over 20 tonnes on the I‑2 and I‑5 highways between 30 June and 1 July because of temperatures above 35 °C, with exemptions for dangerous goods, live animals and perishable food.

A day earlier, Moldovan border police reported heavy queues of vehicles and passengers at the Sculeni checkpoint on the route out of the country. All lanes were opened and a reverse‑flow (REVERS) procedure was applied to smooth cross‑border movement.

Traffic at other Bulgarian border posts and at most other Moldovan crossing points was described as normal.
