Heavy Truck Collision Closes Colombia's Vía al Llano Tunnel for Over Five Hours

A violent collision between two heavy‑load trucks, one carrying chemicals, occurred inside the Renacer tunnel on the Vía al Llano corridor linking Bogotá and Villavicencio on 27 July. The incident forced a total closure of the road for more than five hours while emergency crews inspected the tunnel, checked for hazardous spills and removed the damaged vehicles.

Authorities, including the concessionaire Coviandina, police, fire services and specialized hazardous‑materials units, managed the situation without any fatalities. The drivers received medical attention and the corridor was reopened gradually after safety was confirmed, ending a prolonged disruption that affected hundreds of travelers.
