Heavy vehicle accidents cause spills and injuries in Mexico
Multiple accidents involving tankers, trailers, and buses have caused significant disruptions and safety concerns across various regions in Mexico.
In Sonora, a series of incidents throughout 2026 has resulted in fatalities, injuries, fires, and hazardous material spills. Notable events include an ammonia tanker rollover on the Hermosillo-Guaymas highway in April, which caused intoxication among those nearby, and a fuel oil tanker accident near Navojoa. In September, a cistern rollover led to the spill of approximately 12,000 liters of sulfuric acid, according to Profepa. Other incidents have occurred on the Ímuris-Cananea and Agua Prieta-Cananea corridors, involving fuel spills and road closures.
In Baja California, a diesel tanker owned by the company Dogal overturned on Boulevard 2000 in Tijuana on October 19. Emergency services, including firefighters and the Red Cross, responded to the scene near Rancho El Rosario to manage the risk of a fuel leak. While the driver was uninjured and no third parties were harmed, the accident caused temporary traffic delays toward Playas de Rosarito.
