Hebei woman regains consciousness after being placed in coffin

A woman in her 70s in Hebei Province, China, reportedly regained consciousness after being placed in a coffin following her presumed death. The woman, who had been suffering from cancer and cerebral thrombosis, was believed to have passed away on September 8 after showing no signs of life.

Her family placed her in a refrigerated coffin to await the arrival of relatives from other regions. However, the following evening, her daughter-in-law heard faint moaning sounds coming from inside the coffin. The family immediately removed her, and by September 11, she had regained enough consciousness to open her eyes, though she remained unable to eat or drink.

She passed away for the final time on the night of September 11 and was buried on September 13. Medical experts suggest the incident may have been a case of ‘apparent death,’ a rare state where metabolic rates and vital signs like pulse and respiration become so weak they are nearly undetectable.
