Hector Santiago is set to make his UFC debut in Shanghai, China, on August 29 against Lawrence Lui, a winner of the Road to UFC tournament. Santiago, a 33-year-old striker with a background in WGP and WAKO kickboxing, enters the promotion following a strong run in MMA that included six wins in seven fights.

Santiago shares a historical connection with former two-division UFC champion Alex Pereira. The two competed on the same WGP card in July 2015, where Pereira won a title in a trilogy bout. Santiago expressed his admiration for Pereira, noting that he has followed his career since before he achieved global fame and hopes to eventually share a card with him again.

Having previously competed in Asia on Kunlun Fight cards alongside legends like Buakaw and Yodsanklai, Santiago is experienced with international competition, though he noted challenges regarding adapting to time zone differences.
