HEDNO increases annual energy network investments by 430%

HEDNO (DEDDIE) officials have released data detailing a significant increase in infrastructure investment and network modernization. Since 2020, the company has invested approximately 2.8 billion euros to upgrade and transform the electrical grid.

Annual investments have reportedly risen by 430% compared to 2019 levels, reaching approximately 800 million euros. This surge aims to address an investment gap of roughly 1.7 billion euros that occurred between 2015 and 2019, which officials say impacted network aging, digitalization, and automation.

One major focus is the undergrounding of cables to improve safety and reliability. HEDNO reports that the rate of undergrounding has increased significantly, moving from 200–250 km per year in 2019 to between 1,700 and 1,800 km annually today. Over the last three years, the net expansion of the underground network has exceeded 4,500 km.
