Höegh Autoliners orders six additional Aurora class car carriers

Höegh Autoliners has expanded its Aurora class newbuilding program by ordering six additional dual-fuel LNG, zero-carbon-ready car carriers. This order brings the total number of vessels in the series to 18, with the potential to reach 26 ships through existing options and reservations.

The vessels are scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2031 and will be constructed by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. in China. The Aurora class ships are designed to carry up to 9,100 cars and are capable of reducing carbon emissions per car by as much as 58% compared to conventional pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs).

CEO Andreas Enger stated that the additional ships will provide greater capacity to pursue growth in the Asian market and offer strategic flexibility for long-term fleet renewal while securing competitive vessel costs.
