Heidelberg proposes cheaper parking tariffs for Bahnstadt district
The city of Heidelberg is proposing adjustments to parking management in the Bahnstadt district following a comprehensive evaluation of measures implemented in August 2025. The study indicates that the expansion of parking management has significantly relieved public road space, reducing average occupancy from over 80 percent to between 25 and 41 percent. This shift has also improved traffic safety by reducing illegal parking in fire access zones and intersections.
To address feedback regarding the needs of employees and private visitors, the city is considering cheaper tariffs. Proposed changes include free parking for up to 60 minutes, reduced rates for daily and monthly tickets, and discounted rates for evening, Sunday, and holiday parking. The city council is scheduled to decide on these adjustments on November 18, 2026.
