Heidelberg resumes ‘Stadt kauft Kunst’ art acquisition program

The City of Heidelberg is resuming its ‘Stadt kauft Kunst’ (City Buys Art) program for the painting category in 2026. Following a hiatus last year, the initiative aims to support the regional art scene by incorporating new works into the municipal collection.

Eligible participants must reside within the 69 postal code area and possess a degree or training in fine arts or relevant exhibition experience. Artists may submit up to two works, with a maximum dimension of 1.20 meters on the longest side. The price cap per artwork is set at 3,000 euros gross. Applications, including a short biography and pricing, must be submitted to the Heidelberg Cultural Office between October 5 and October 9, 2026.
