Heidelberg rolls out 2026 volunteer program and digital construction‑site map

Heidelberg announced two new municipal initiatives for 2026. The 10th Freiwilligentage will run from 12 – 20 September 2026, inviting residents to submit or join one‑day community projects. Twenty‑two nonprofit projects have been selected, and volunteers can register via the website www.wir-schaffen-was.de. Mayor Eckart Würzner presented the projects alongside representatives of local agencies.

In parallel, the city launched an online, real‑time construction‑site overview that displays current road works and traffic restrictions. The digital map, accessible at baustellen.heidelberg.de, starts listing sites entered into the city’s construction‑management system from 1 August 2026. The service, developed with the Digital‑Agentur Heidelberg, aims to improve transparency for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and businesses and will be continuously expanded based on user feedback.
