Heidelberger and pfenning group partner on pharmaceutical packaging
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen and the pfenning group have entered a partnership to integrate pharmaceutical packaging production with serialization and distribution processes. The collaboration aims to create a unified digital and operational framework that connects industrial printing and workflow automation with packaging, aggregation, and track-and-trace expertise.
By linking print and packaging systems directly with data-driven logistics, the companies intend to prevent data gaps that often occur during manual reconciliation between separate systems. This integration is designed to meet strict regulatory requirements, including Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP), by ensuring documented traceability from manufacturing through final distribution.
The partnership allows for unit-level verification through aggregation, where individual serialized units are linked into cartons, cases, and pallets. This enables distributors to verify authenticity at multiple levels without breaking seals. This move aligns with Heidelberger’s strategy to expand its business offerings beyond traditional printing into complete packaging processes.
