Heidelberger Druckmaschinen expands into defense and battery technology

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG has reported a mixed start to the 2026/2027 fiscal year, characterized by weak initial sales and operating results but a robust incoming order volume of 537 million euros. The company is actively executing a strategic transformation to become a diversified technology group.

Key expansion initiatives include the acquisition of the manroland sheetfed lifecycle business and POLAR production operations to strengthen its core printing and packaging segment. Additionally, the company is diversifying into the defense and energy sectors. Through a partnership with Ukrainian developer Skyeton, Heidelberger is developing autonomous air-land systems for drone defense.

In the energy sector, the company's subsidiary, HD Advanced Technologies, is entering the production of sodium-ion battery storage systems in collaboration with PHENOGY, with series production of container systems planned for early 2027.
