September 11 anniversary marks 25 years of remembrance and tributes

As the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks approaches, various commemorations and tributes are being organized. In the United States, President Trump plans to honor the victims and heroes with a tribute that includes displaying a 21-foot, 16,900-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center South Tower on the White House Ellipse. The administration's plans include a ceremony at the Pentagon attended by the President, while Vice President JD Vance will visit the World Trade Center site. Other officials will represent the White House in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

In New York, the FDNY honored 36 members who died from 9/11-related illnesses, bringing the total number of fire and EMS personnel added to the department’s World Trade Center Memorial Wall for such causes to 438.

Community events are also scheduled, including a memorial 5K in Arlington, Virginia, which will cause road closures around the Pentagon, and a community tribute at the Flame of Liberty in Los Gatos, California, featuring keynote speaker and retired FDNY Lieutenant Joe Torrillo. Globally, the anniversary is being marked through various media specials and personal reflections on the lasting impact of the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
