Heidi Overton nominated by Trump to lead the FDA FAST-MOVING

President Donald Trump has nominated Dr. Heidi Overton to serve as the commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Overton, a medical doctor and current deputy director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, is a longtime administration ally who previously served as chief policy officer at the America First Policy Institute.

Overton’s nomination comes after months of leadership instability at the agency following the resignation of former commissioner Dr. Marty Makary in May. Since then, Kyle Diamantas has served as the acting commissioner. The FDA has faced significant turnover and policy shifts during this period.

If confirmed by the Senate, Overton is expected to advance the administration’s health priorities, including the ‘Make America Healthy Again’ movement led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Her platform includes accelerating drug cures, increasing innovation, and reforming clinical trials. However, her nomination has drawn scrutiny due to her support for controversial vaccine policies, such as an executive order proposing to split the combined MMR vaccine into three separate shots and reducing the childhood vaccine schedule.
