Heike Henkel and Heike Drechsler release joint book

Olympic champions Heike Henkel and Heike Drechsler have released a collaborative book titled ‘Heike & Heike – Zwei Seiten einer Medaille’. The work explores their contrasting backgrounds as athletes from East and West Germany, who both stood atop the podium at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

The book examines themes of mental strength, resilience, teamwork, and personal development. It delves into the realities of elite sports, including the discipline, injuries, and doubts that often remain hidden behind public success. Beyond sports history, the authors use their experiences to offer insights into leadership, team culture, and the importance of mutual understanding in a divided political landscape.

Now in their 60s, the former high jumper Henkel and long jumper Drechsler have transitioned from being representatives of different sporting systems to friends who deliver joint lectures on finding common ground despite different origins.
