AfD candidate Michael Maurer investigated after alleged attack proved false
On 1 March 2026 a hand‑to‑hand clash occurred at an AfD campaign stand in Rosenheim. Video footage later showed the incident was a struggle over a banner, not an unprovoked attack.
The Bavarian public prosecutor’s office in Traunstein subsequently dismissed the case against three alleged left‑wing perpetrators, finding them innocent. It opened a new investigation against Maurer himself, examining whether he fabricated the assault or committed an offence in the course of the altercation.
