Heilongjiang experiences vibrant aurora displays

Vibrant aurora displays appeared in Heilongjiang, China, on the night of October 4, driven by intense geomagnetic activity. Wide bands of red and purple light illuminated the night sky, with some areas allowing for clear observation with the naked eye and standard mobile phone cameras.

Mohe, located at approximately 53 degrees North latitude, recorded its sixth aurora event of 2026. These celestial displays are caused by solar activity, specifically solar storms and coronal mass ejections (CME) that send charged particles toward Earth, disturbing its magnetic field. Due to its high latitude, Heilongjiang has become a frequent location for such sightings, sparking a wave of aurora tourism in the region.
