Heinz Erhardt estate to move to Haus der Geschichte in Bonn
The estate of the late German comedian Heinz Erhardt is being transferred to the Haus der Geschichte in Bonn as a permanent loan. The collection, which was previously stored in a cellar in Hamburg, includes personal items such as letters to his wife, photographs, his typewriter, and 19 diaries written since the 1940s.
The transfer follows the resolution of a long-standing dispute among Erhardt's heirs. Manfred Wichmann, the collection director at the Haus der Geschichte, noted that while the institution does not typically accept such estates, Erhardt is a significant figure in German history whose humor provides insight into the social customs of his era.
In the coming months, the items will undergo a process of reading, measuring, photographing, digitizing, and cataloging in Bonn. A public presentation of the collection is tentatively planned for 2029, marking the 50th anniversary of Erhardt's death.
