Heinz Strunk receives no free beer at 'Zum Goldenen Handschuh' pub

Author Heinz Strunk revealed during the NDR Talk Show that he does not receive free drinks at the 'Zum Goldenen Handschuh' pub in Hamburg, despite his famous book of the same name.

Strunk, 64, noted that he visits the establishment near the Reeperbahn only about twice a year and pays for his own beverages like any other customer. His book 'Der goldene Handschuh,' which inspired a film by Fatih Akin, was released ten years ago.

Currently, Strunk's novel 'Memories of Heidelberg' is on the bestseller list and has been nominated for the 2026 German Book Prize.
