Heisman Trophy race shifts after Week 1 college football performances
The 2026 college football season has seen a shift in the Heisman Trophy landscape following Week 1 performances. Miami quarterback Darian Mensah emerged as a top contender after completing 27-of-30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns in a victory against Stanford. His teammate, wide receiver Malachi Toney, also recorded significant statistics, finishing with 12 catches for 234 yards and three touchdowns.
Other notable Week 1 standouts include Florida running back Jadan Baugh, who recorded 160 yards and three touchdowns against Florida Atlantic, and Penn State quarterback Rocco Becht, who threw four touchdown passes in a win over Marshall.
