HELB announces new loan disbursements and repayment reforms

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has announced the successful processing and disbursement of 12 additional student loan batches as of October 26, 2026. Simultaneously, the National Assembly Committee on Education is reviewing proposals regarding loan repayment terms. While the Tertiary Education, Placement and Funding Bill, 2026, currently proposes a cap of 25 per cent on monthly salary deductions for loan recovery, education stakeholders and lobby groups are advocating for a reduction to 15 per cent. Proponents argue that a lower deduction rate would increase graduates' take-home pay and encourage more consistent loan repayments.
