HELB extends student loan application deadline to September 21
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has extended the deadline for subsequent loan applications for continuing university and college students to September 21, 2026. The extension follows complaints from students who encountered difficulties during the initial application period, including network-related issues.
The decision aligns with a directive from Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, who ordered the Universities Fund and HELB to extend the window for all eligible applicants to ensure those locked out by various causes can still access funding. This new deadline matches the extended window for first-time applicants.
In addition to the deadline extension, CS Ogamba confirmed that Ksh22.12 billion has already been disbursed for first-semester and first-term funding to continuing university students and TVET trainees.
