Helena Taliberti releases book on grief and justice after Brumadinho tragedy

Writer Helena Taliberti has released a new book, ‘Tentam nos Enterrar, Não Sabiam que Somos Sementes’ (They Try to Bury Us, They Didn't Know We Are Seeds), addressing the grief and pursuit of justice following the Brumadinho dam disaster.

Taliberti lost her two children, Luiz and Camila, and her pregnant daughter-in-law, Fernanda, during the collapse of the Vale mining dam on January 25, 2019, in Minas Gerais. The disaster resulted in 272 deaths and released 12 million cubic meters of tailings.

The author describes the work as a form of resistance against the erasure of the victims' memories. Through the book and the Camila and Luiz Taliberti Institute, she seeks to transform collective mourning into a movement for accountability and remembrance.
