Helensburgh Community Centre and Library project reaches key milestone

The Wollongong City Council has lodged a Development Application (DA) for the new Helensburgh Community Centre and Library. The project has reached this milestone following community consultation held earlier this year.

The proposed 1,240m² two-storey facility will feature a modern library more than double the size of the current one, along with a large hall capable of seating over 200 people. The space is intended to host various activities, including workshops, fitness classes, exhibitions, and performances.

In response to community feedback regarding parking and environmental impact, the updated plans include doubled parking provisions, increasing the total to 22 spaces. The design also incorporates Passivhaus principles—such as high insulation, double glazing, and heat recovery ventilation—alongside rainwater reuse and solar access to enhance sustainability and energy efficiency.
