Helga Lizany Solís Gomes surrenders amid criminal association charges

Helga Lizany Solís Gomes, a former prosecutor's assistant and niece of the late deputy Eulalio ‘Lalo’ Gomes, has surrendered to authorities in Paraguay. She faces charges of criminal association, influence peddling, and frustration of criminal prosecution.

Prosecutor Ingrid Cubilla alleges that Solís Gomes used her position within the Public Ministry to infiltrate and manipulate the justice system, facilitating favors for a criminal clan. The investigation suggests that between 2019 and 2023, she leveraged contacts within the judiciary and public defense to benefit investigated individuals.

Solís Gomes turned herself in voluntarily at the Organized Crime Department base in Pedro Juan Caballero before being transferred to San Lorenzo. Her legal counsel has indicated she will abstain from testifying until they have conducted a detailed review of the charges and the specific judicial proceedings.
