Helical Fusion selected for Japanese fusion energy demonstration subsidy

Helical Fusion has been conditionally selected for the ‘Fusion Energy Power Generation Demonstration Promotion Project Subsidy’ by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The initiative is part of a national strategy to achieve fusion energy power generation demonstrations by the 2030s.

The subsidy program aims to support various technological approaches to fusion, with a total expected scale of approximately 60 billion yen for all selected projects by February 2029. Helical Fusion utilizes the ‘helical method,’ a technology with approximately 70 years of research and development history in Japan, to pursue goals such as net power generation, steady-state operation, and maintainability.

Fusion energy is viewed as a critical solution for global energy and environmental challenges due to its ability to produce carbon-free energy using abundant fuel sources like seawater, its inherent safety features, and its minimal environmental impact.
