Uttarakhand helicopter crash kills six near Joshimath

A Trans Bharat Aviation helicopter crashed in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Friday, October 30, killing all six people on board. The aircraft, an Airbus AS350B3 with registration VT-HCX, was traveling from Badrinath to Dehradun when it lost contact with radar near the Joshimath valley.

The victims include the pilot, Captain Himanshu Sabharwal from Delhi, and five passengers from Karnataka: Arun Salunke, a Bengaluru police inspector; Shankar Gowda VB, a lawyer; Prathapa Bachihalli Ningraju, a businessman; Sudheer K, and H.S. Natraja.

Rescue operations involved the Indian Army, SDRF, ITBP, and local police. The bodies were recovered from a rugged, high-altitude area near Chai village and transported to AIIMS Rishikesh for post-mortem examinations. The crash occurred amid an orange alert from the Indian Meteorological Department, which had predicted heavy rainfall, snowfall, and poor visibility in the region.

Following the incident, the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority grounded Trans Bharat Aviation’s entire fleet as a precaution. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered a high-level investigation into the technical and meteorological factors contributing to the accident.
