Iaras helicopter crash survivors suspected of PCC criminal links
Three people survived a helicopter crash in a dense forest area near Iaras, in the interior of São Paulo, after one of the occupants contacted the Military Police for rescue. The survivors were located on Sunday morning following a complex operation involving the Águia aviation unit.
Investigations by the Military Police have revealed that the survivors are suspected of having links to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) criminal faction. One passenger reportedly provided a false identity to officers during the rescue, but police checks through the Muralha Paulista system identified him as a fugitive with a criminal record for drug trafficking and kidnapping.
The pilot, identified as José Tadeu dos Santos, is a former member of the Air Force who has previously served 15 years in prison for international drug trafficking. Authorities also noted that the Agusta A109C helicopter was operating illegally; its airworthiness certificate had been canceled since May 2019, and it lacked the necessary authorizations for commercial or taxi-air services. The case has been referred to the Civil Police for criminal investigation.
