Helicopter crash in Ulu Baram triggers search and rescue operation

A search and rescue operation is underway following the crash of a Layang-Layang Aerospace BO-105 helicopter near the Long Lellang STOLport in Ulu Baram, Sarawak. The aircraft was reportedly conducting a Flying Doctor Service mission at the time of the incident.

Rescue efforts involving over 20 personnel from various agencies, including 12 firefighters, have faced significant delays due to heavy rain and weather conditions. While assets are ready for deployment, authorities are waiting for weather to improve before sending helicopters to the crash site. Ground travel from Marudi to the location is estimated to take at least 10 hours via logging roads.

The status of the five individuals on board the helicopter remains unconfirmed. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has confirmed the incident, and the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will conduct a formal investigation. Commercial flights to Long Lellang have been suspended to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
