Helios St. Marienberg Klinik to host lecture on asthma and COPD
Tobias Leis, Chief Physician of Pneumology, Ventilation, and Sleep Medicine at the Helios St. Marienberg Klinik in Helmstedt, will deliver a lecture titled ‘Why am I having trouble breathing? – Focus on Asthma and COPD’. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, at 6 p.m. in the clinic's lecture hall. Admission is free and no registration is required.
The presentation will address symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, sputum, or reduced physical endurance, which can indicate asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). While both are common chronic respiratory diseases with similar symptoms, they differ in onset, progression, and treatment. Asthma typically involves episodic airway narrowing that is often manageable, whereas COPD is characterized by persistent narrowing that does not fully resolve and may worsen over time.
Dr. Leis noted that many individuals do not take persistent coughing or breathlessness seriously, often attributing them to age or lack of fitness. He emphasized that early detection of the underlying cause allows for more targeted treatment and improved quality of life for those affected.
