Hellenic Army modernizes doctrine with drones and new weaponry

The Hellenic Army is undergoing a major modernization effort focused on updating its operational doctrine, structure, and weaponry. Under the guidance of the Hellenic Army General Staff and Chief Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, the military is integrating lessons learned from recent conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

A central component of this transformation is the ‘sensor-to-shooter loop,’ which aims to minimize the time between target identification and engagement. This involves connecting various technologies, such as drones for reconnaissance, command centers for data processing, and strike systems like the PULS, SPIKE NLOS, or Apache helicopters.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and First-Person View (FPV) drones are being integrated directly into soldier training. The General Staff has issued a new Campaign Manual specifically for the tactical use and countering of these systems, transitioning drones from specialized unit tools to standard equipment for individual combatants and conscripts.
