Hellenic Basketball Federation reports potential illegal funding to authorities

Vangelis Liolios, President of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK), has alerted authorities to evidence of potential illegal funding involving a professional basketball club (KAE) in the Greek Basketball League. During a Board of Directors meeting held via videoconference, Liolios reported that evidence has emerged regarding illegal financing totaling several thousand euros, which reportedly originates from Asia.

Due to the nature of the findings, the EOK is required to submit the evidence for urgent investigation to the Sports Prosecutor, the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), and the authority responsible for combating money laundering.

While the specific club involved has not been named, it has been explicitly clarified that the investigation does not involve the five major Greek basketball teams: Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, PAOK, AEK, or Aris. The Federation intends to request that the prosecutor summon any necessary board members to assist in the investigation. Liolios stated that the matter must be fully clarified before the start of the new season, at which point an official update will be provided to the public.
