Hellenic Cardiological College reviews non-combustible tobacco data
At the 22nd Annual Congress of the Hellenic Cardiological College, experts presented clinical data regarding the impact of non-combustible tobacco products on adult smokers. A 12-month study conducted in the United Kingdom, involving over 500 participants and 144,000 biomarker measurements, indicated that adult smokers who transitioned entirely to a tobacco heating system (glo) showed a significant reduction in most biomarkers of exposure to toxic substances.
The data also revealed favorable changes in biomarkers of potential harm, including indicators related to inflammation, endothelial function, platelet activation, and oxidative stress, which are linked to cardiovascular health. In several instances, the direction of these changes mirrored those observed following complete smoking cessation.
Despite these findings, cardiologists emphasized that complete smoking cessation remains the only optimal choice for protecting long-term health.
