Anthony Albanese attends Hellenic Club Sydney centenary gala

The Hellenic Club Sydney celebrated its 100th anniversary on October 24, 2026, with a landmark centenary gala at the Hyatt Regency Sydney. The event brought together political leaders, diplomats, and prominent members of the Greek-Australian community to honor the institution's century-long role in preserving Greek language, faith, and culture.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese attended as the guest of honor, stating that “an Australia without Greek-Australians is simply unthinkable.” He reflected on the club's origins in 1926, noting that the Greek population in Sydney was then only between 1,000 and 1,500 people. Albanese also highlighted the enduring relationship between Greece and Australia, referencing the historical significance of October 28, 1940.

Other notable attendees included the Greek Ambassador to Australia, Stavros Venizelos; the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Giorgios Skemperis; and Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee President Andrew Liveris AO. The gathering featured representatives from the government, the Church, and the business sector, underscoring the club's importance as a cornerstone of the Greek-Australian diaspora.
